As a special addition to the usual festivities of the Caribbean Style and Culture Awards, the First Lady of Guyana, H.E. Sandra Granger traveled to Maryland to attend the event as its honored guest. Mrs Granger made her first appearance at the Culture, Art and Fashion Reception at the Guyana Embassy on June 28. Elegantly decked in a design by Guyanese Roger Gary, the First Lady was pleased to be present for a sneak peek of what the Caribbean designers would showcase on June 30. Following the show, Mrs Granger mingled with the Ambassador to Guyana, Dr. Riyad Insanally and other dignitaries that were present at the event.
The First Lady also attended a luncheon hosted by members of the Caribbean Business Alliance where she served as the guest speaker and interacted with Caribbean nationals, dignitaries and business owners based in the Washington DC metro area. Mrs. Granger in her remarks expressed thanks to the organizers for hosting such an affair in her honor as well as for the generosity shown by donors who made a sizable donation to her charity based in Guyana.
On June 30, at the premier event, the First Lady stole the show, decked in an all-white ensemble designed by Guyanese designer Pat Coates. She also presented the Awards to Guyanese designers Quinton Pearson and Nadia Thomas Winter. During brief remarks at that event, Mrs Granger also commended the designers, adding that their display of work shows the creativity and diversity of the Caribbean region.
